What is Making Waves In the World of Civil Engineering

The Kenya-Tanzania Connective Project

Kenya and Tanzania's cross-border trade at the Lunga-Lunga border is set to grow thanks to the new Dongo Kundu bypass, which connects to Mombasa's port. This $307 million project allows goods to move between the two countries without using the Likoni ferry. It’s part of a larger East African Coastal Corridor project funded by the African Development Bank and the EU. The bypass, which is 17.5 kilometers long, will boost connectivity, benefiting the Standard Gauge Railway and Mombasa International Airport. The project, involving impressive bridges, is nearly complete, with a formal opening ceremony to follow.

South Korea’s SGC Engineering & Construction (E&C) has won a $189 million construction contract from Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem)

A Plan to Decarbonise Europe’s Cities

At the end of June, the EU's Net Zero Cities project introduced a new Climate City Capital Hub at the Cities Mission Conference in Valencia. This hub aims to raise around €650 billion to help over 100 European cities reach their 2030 carbon-neutral goals. These cities are seeking funds from both public and private investors for various net-zero and climate-resilience projects. Bankers Without Boundaries, the project's main financial partner, is advising cities on how to access this funding. Executive Director Allison Lob mentioned that their team, made up of former investment bankers, is focused on supporting environmental and public sector initiatives.
